college, even if you are taking independent student courses outside of school.  Since the PSAT is designed by the very same people who create the SAT’s it can provide you with personalized feedback on how to improve specific academic skills to help improve your score on the SAT’s.  Every student who takes the PSAT on October 13th will receive a personalized study guideline highlighting areas in which they need to study to obtain a higher SAT score.   According to the College Board, students who take the PSAT, on average, score higher on the SAT than those students who do not take the test. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The PSAT is also your opportunity to compete for the prestigious National Merit Scholarship, which can only be done if you take the PSAT on October 13th.  There are also other scholarships opportunities for students of Hispanic and African-American decent.  Scholarships are awarded to those top students who showed academic excellence through their score on the PSAT.
